Description

Chrysis was made by artist Carl Link in 1919‚ an example of theater illustration rather than a customary oil painting․ The image features a tall long-haired woman with raised arms standing in a long‚ jewel encrusted‚ beaded and tasselled‚ golden gown and a bright halo․ The use of a dark blue violet background highlights the gold and adds symmetry‚ pomp and theatricality to the paintings․ It also borrowed from theatrical costume illustration‚ Art Nouveau‚ early Art Deco geometry‚ fantasy imagery‚ and Egyptian motifs․
