Description

Calm and Silence is an expressive sculpture by artist Miguel Guia․ It shows a stylized human head lying on a big human hand‚ where one finger is to the lips in an obvious gesture of silence and self restriction․ The drooping shape‚ the unevenness‚ the exaggerated proportions of the long nose‚ and the downcast eye and large hand endow the figure with a dreamlike and almost surreal quality․

The dark bronze finish matches the serious subject of the sculpture․ The raised face‚ fingers and the forehead are highlighted with lighter bronze‚ contrasting with the dark recesses․ This light and shadow interplay creates a contrast that gives a different face to either side of the sculpture․
