Landscapes and Cityscapes Shaped in Clay is a ceramic art project where landscapes‚ mountains‚ rivers‚ roads‚ buildings‚ deserts‚ neighbourhoods or city skylines are transformed to ceramic relief tiles‚ with students designing small ceramic shapes to discuss the work involved in shaping their landscapes or cityscapes‚ then applying paint to the work․

The nine tiles are square‚ rectangular‚ irregular and circular in shape‚ each offering a different reading of nature or the man-made environment‚ so that the resulting display feels diverse‚ personal and full of character․

Rather than making a flat picture‚ the artists carved the tiles to make buildings protrude from the city background‚ trees rise from the surface‚ shaped stones follow the rivers’ outlines‚ and mountains are made of layered clay․

Creative Concept

This project is designed to encourage artists to see the places they are in and the details that make them unique․ A cityscape might be defined by its tall buildings‚ glowing windows‚ roads‚ bridges‚ or streetlights․ These include mountains‚ rivers‚ trees‚ fields‚ deserts and changing skies․
